CoachArt In Home Lessons for Kids Impacted by Chronic Illness
CoachArt is a nonprofit organization that offers free music, art, and athletic lessons to children and teens who have been impacted by a chronic, physical illness. Currently serving families in Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, and San Diego, CoachArt students receive 1-on-1 lessons in the artistic or athletic skills they want to learn.
What Are CoachArt In Home Lessons?
CoachArt In Home Lessons are the core of our Service model. Talented volunteer coaches provide high-quality in-home instruction to chronically ill children and their siblings over the course of 8 weeks. At the end of the 8-week session, CoachArt students can renew their activity or sign up for something new. All lessons and materials are provided at no cost to volunteers or families.
Some of our most popular lessons include but are not limited to: cooking, baking, piano, guitar, singing, arts and crafts, painting, soccer, baseball, basketball, tennis, yoga, and volleyball.
CoachArt Volunteers: Coaches are volunteers committed to bringing joy to children & teens impacted by chronic illness. All CoachArt coaches have completed an orientation and a background check.
How CoachArt In Home Lessons Benefit Kids and Families
Children living with chronic illness may feel isolated because of their condition. Frequent hospital visits and deficient immune systems often cause them to miss time in school and recreational activities. Families, overwhelmed by the cost and demands of ongoing medical care, often lack the resources to seek out or afford extracurricular activities. Healthy siblings are affected too when family resources are focused on a chronically ill child. CoachArt supports these families by offering free recreational lessons that bring a sense of normalcy back into their lives. CoachArt In Home Lessons give students a safe space to learn and improve a new skill with one-on-one instruction from a personal coach who cheers them on, and an outlet to express themselves and have fun.

Signing Your Child Up for CoachArt: How it Works
Signing a child up for CoachArt is a simple 3-step process.
Step 1: Fill Out a Student Eligibility Form – This process will take about 30 minutes to complete and will require that you send your child’s doctor a Medical Consent form.
Step 2: Complete a Welcome Call with your Regional Program Manager – Your welcome call will answer any questions that you may have about CoachArt and participating in CoachArt In Home Lessons and Group Activities.
Step 3: Ready to Participate – Your child is now ready to be matched to a volunteer coach. When we find your child the perfect coach, you’ll receive a match request via text message. Your child’s CoachArt coach will work with you to figure out a schedule that works for everyone.
If your child has been diagnosed with a chronic condition, and you live in one of our service areas – Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, or San Diego – we invite you to fill out a student eligibility form for your child.
