5 Fun and Free Art Lessons for Kids to Try at Home!

Free art lessons for kids and cooking lessons for kids are available online to keep kids inspired, help them explore their creativity, and foster a love of learning. In addition to CoachArt’s free online programming for families impacted by childhood chronic illness, we also provide free art lessons for kids every week on Facebook Live. Kids, families, volunteers, and educators are welcome to participate in the live lessons, and our library of tutorials is available on the CoachArt Facebook Page and YouTube channel to help you learn and practice artistic skills and cooking skills.

2 Baking Lessons for Kids

Baking is a popular creative skill that CoachArt kids want to learn, and this month we hosted two baking lessons for kids and teens on Facebook Live. We had tons of fun in the kitchen learning to bake yummy treats with step-by-step instruction from Coach Jess! In our first lesson, kids learned how to make their own chocolate peanut butter cups with bananas. This delicious recipe is kid-approved and a must-try! All you need is four simple ingredients to bake them at home. Follow along with Coach Jess to bake your own.


  • Semisweet Chocolate Chips
  • Smooth Peanut Butter (or nut butter)
  • Coconut Oil
  • 2 Bananas


  • Mini Cupcake Liners
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Tray
  • Measuring Cups
  • Spoon
  • Butter knife

Duration: 30 minutes
Note: We recommend adult supervision for baking tutorials.


Put on your chef hat and break out the sprinkles! In our second Facebook Live baking tutorial this month, kids learned how to make glazed donuts, and then we decorated them with our favorite toppings! 2 Guided Painting Lessons for Kids

Celebrate Earth Month with art that inspires! On Earth Day, Coach Erick led participants in a guided painting lesson inspired by California’s beautiful mountain landscapes. In the video lesson below, Erick provides step-by-step instructions so that kids can create their own rendition of the artwork. No painting experience is necessary, just the desire to have fun.


  • 1 Canvas Panel: we used 11″ x 14″ size, but any size works. (Substitute: cardstock/letter paper)
  • 2 Paintbrushes: one round and one flat (Substitute: Any paintbrushes)
  • Acrylic Paint: White, black, blue, red, and yellow (Substitute: Any colors you have. Watercolors work too!)
  • Paint Palette: paper plate or recycled cardboard
  • 1 Disposable Water Cup
  • Apron or clothes you don’t mind getting dirty

Duration: 47 minutes

1 Creative Drawing Lesson for Kids

Coach Byron led kids in a guided drawing lesson this month where we drew colorful fireworks bursting on the page! You can follow along with Coach Byron in the video lesson below to create the artwork. This is a perfect art activity for free time! All you need is 15 minutes, some blank paper, and something to draw with.


  • Blank paper
  • Crayons, markers, or colored pencils
