2019 CoachArt Benefit: 4 Unforgettable Moments with CoachArt Kids

In CoachArt Community, CoachArt Student Spotlight, Inspiration, Our Mission, San Francisco

On May 16th, we held our sixth annual CoachArt Children’s Benefit in San Francisco, honoring Chime CEO Chris Britt, which raised 946K to benefit kids impacted by chronic and life-threatening illnesses. The evening was an amazing reminder of the power that arts and athletics have for kids impacted by chronic illness, featured inspiring speeches from our Benefit Honorees, as well as performances and artwork from CoachArt kids.

Several CoachArt students and families helped make the 2019 CoachArt Benefit a memorable event, so want to share with you these 4 forgettable moments with our students!

Photo Club Students at the 2019 CoachArt Benefit

Bay Area CoachArt Photo Club students helped us create lasting memories at the 2019 CoachArt Children’s Benefit. They even joined us for a special Facebook Live Interview! Photo club students learned the fundamentals of photography, how to use a camera, and learned post-production editing!

Interactive Painting Experience with Paint Club Students at the 2019 CoachArt Benefit

Bay Area CoachArt students helped us bring our ‘Paint the Night’ theme to life at the 2019 CoachArt Benefit! Using canvases painted by CoachArt Paint Club kids, guests at the CoachArt Benefit in San Francisco had the opportunity to participate in an interactive painting experience. The Benefit also featured artwork from our Paint Club students! Video features Benefit photos from Julia Zave Photography and CoachArt Students.

2019 CoachArt Benefit Honors Chanita as our Shining Star Student

The 2019 CoachArt Benefit also honored CoachArt student Chanita as this year’s Shining Star Student! A 17-year-old CoachArt student from Oakland, Chanita was born with hip dysplasia and was later diagnosed with kidney complications. Since becoming a CoachArt student in 2016 she has participated in many CoachArt clubs, one-day group lessons, special events, and in-home lessons. Her favorite lessons have included sewing (with our Volunteer of the Year, Kendell), and animation!

CoachArt Students Co-Hosting the 2019 CoachArt Benefit

The event was co-hosted by CoachArt students Nomi, 16, from El Sobrante and Roan, 16, from Oakland, both of whom are childhood cancer survivors. Our inspiring co-hosts prepared for the evening by working with CoachArt coach and former actress, Lisa Larkin.

About CoachArt

CoachArt provides a transformative learning community for children impacted by chronic illness by providing no-cost lessons in the arts and athletics. CoachArt was founded in 2001 by Zander Lurie and Leah Bernthal in memory of Zander’s father, Dr. Arthur Lurie, a cardiac surgeon who recognized the need for long-term support and enrichment among the pediatric patient population. Today, CoachArt offers 10,000 hours of high-quality arts and athletics activities to children each year with the support of 400 volunteers and 85 partner organizations.

Making a Difference for Families Impacted by Childhood Chronic Illness

Since 2001, CoachArt has matched volunteer coaches with students for one-on-one or group lessons in arts and athletics. Our vision is that one day every family impacted by chronic illness will be connected to a community of support and an opportunity to learn and grow together.

CoachArt offers free art and athletic lessons to chronically ill children and their siblings between the ages of 5-18 in Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, and San Diego. If your child has been diagnosed with a chronic condition, we invite you to fill out a get in touch to learn if CoachArt is right for your child.
